| Bobbie Jones McLane has long been active in the historical and genealogical
field. Under her research company, Arkansas Ancestors, she has published
more than 125 volumes of Arkansas and Alabama genealogical research material.
The book publishing concern began in 1967, with the publication of the
1850 Census of Sevier County, Arkansas and Marriage Records through 1852.
Those pages were typed on stencils and run on an old mimeograph machine.
My, what changes in 34 years! A seventh generation Arkansan, and an avid
history and genealogy enthusiast, she is the owner of Arkansas Ancestors.
She retired in 1986 as Director of Employee and Labor Relations with the
U. S. Postal Service. Bobbie is a life member of the Arkansas Historical
Association, a charter, life member, past president, and long-time treasurer
for the Arkansas Genealogical Society. She is past-president of Professional
Genealogists of Arkansas, and an organizer and charter member of the Garland
County Historical Society, serving as co-editor of its publication The
Record, and director of its Archives, now in it's 41st year. Bobbie was
selected in 1980 for the publication 100 Arkansas Women of Achievement,
published by the Arkansas Press Women. Beginning in 1967 she is listed
and in subsequent editions of Who's Who of American Women, and in Who's
Who in Genealogy and Heraldry. To be chosen for inclusion, candidates must
have held a position of responsibiity or have attained a significant achievement
in their field. She has been appointed by four Governors of Arkansas, for
four seven-year terms on the Arkansas History Commission - State Archives,
an appointment she currently holds. Her professional affiliations are many,
among them the Society of Mayflower Descendants, National Genealogical
Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, Federation of Genealogical
Society, a graduate of Samford University's Institute of Genealogy and

American Association of State and Local History and was the recipient of
an award by that Association in that same year for her significant contributions
to historical and genealogical research.
