Arkansas CSA Soldiers - 1911 "Census" of Confederate Veterans
by Bobbie Jones McLane
In 1911, the Public Acts of Arkansas, No. 353, provided that an enumeration
or census be made by the tax collector of each county, of Confederate veterans
residing in Arkansas. This series represents 44 counties' original questionnaires
- no records are found for the 31 remaining counties. The 1,751 questionaires
list, in many instances, the fullname of the veteran, his post office address,
date and place of birth, date, state and county of enlistment, full name
and place of birth of subject's parents, grandparents, maiden name of wife,
with date and place of marriage, names of her parents and full list of
children. (This information given on many, though not all are completed
in detail.) Arranged in alphabetical order by veteran's name.
